THE COLOUR ARCHIVE · UPDATED SEPTEMBER 2026
Five colour directions—and how to use them at home.
Arriving from our 2025 colour Pin? This restored guide turns five palette ideas into practical choices. It is an editorial palette guide, not a measured ranking of 2025 trends.
1. Warm off-white
Use it as a quiet background when your room already contains warm wood or beige textiles. Test a large sample beside your trim: two almost-matching whites can make each other look yellow or grey.
2. Muted sage
Try it on a smaller surface first, such as a cabinet or an existing accessory. Compare it in morning and evening light before committing to a whole room.
3. Earthy terracotta
Use a small accent to warm a neutral room. A cushion, artwork or vase is an easier experiment than repainting every wall.
4. Soft brown
Repeat an existing wood tone to make a room feel connected. Check the undertone against your floor rather than buying another brown that almost matches.
5. Inky blue or charcoal
A small dark detail can give pale rooms contrast. Start with a frame or lamp you own; dark walls need testing in the room’s actual light.

Optional neutral-room shortlist
Keep your existing large furniture. If you need a finishing layer, our guide lists specific curtain, cushion, throw and frame options with sizes and limitations.
