Curtain Size Guide

MEASURE FIRST · BUY ONCE

What curtain size do you actually need?

Choose the hanging point first. Then measure the drop and the full rod span. An 84-inch panel is a size—not a rule.

Three measurements before checkout

  1. Rod position: mark where the rod will sit. IKEA suggests about 15 cm (6 in) above the frame and at least 15 cm beyond each side as a starting point. Adjust for trim, wall space and how much room open curtains need.
  2. Finished drop: measure from the actual fabric hanging point to your chosen hem position. Rings and grommets change how the fabric hangs. Do not measure only the window glass.
  3. Rod span: measure the usable width the closed curtains must cover, excluding decorative finials. Then allow extra fabric for folds.

Will two 52-inch panels be wide enough?

A pair gives 104 inches of flat fabric. Divide that by your rod span to estimate fullness. About 1.5× gives a looser gather; about 2× gives fuller folds for many ready-made curtains. This is a planning guide: follow the curtain maker’s instructions for your heading style.

Rod spanPair’s fullnessWhat to expect
52 in2×Fuller folds
60 in1.73×Moderate gather
72 in1.44×Flatter; consider more width
84 in1.24×Very flat; compare wider panels
Length example: if your required finished fabric drop is 94 inches, an 84-inch panel is too short. A longer panel may need hemming. Allow for the product’s heading geometry and care-related shrinkage before choosing.

Light filtering or blackout?

Light filtering softens daylight. It does not promise darkness or nighttime privacy. Blackout prioritizes reducing light through the fabric, but light can still enter around the edges. Decide the job before comparing colour.

Two options, for different needs

These are different products in different marketplaces—not interchangeable country versions. Both linked variants are 84 inches long; choose them only if your measurements fit.
